Introduction

Image
A microwave oven is a compact, box-shaped oven that increases food's temperature by exposing it to an electromagnetic field with a high frequency. Water, lipids, carbohydrates, and a few other molecules absorb the microwaves, which causes their vibrations to produce heat. Thus, cooking time is significantly shortened because the heating takes place inside the food rather than warming the air around it. In a microwave oven, chores like baking and other types of cooking that take hours in a normal oven can be finished quickly. Microwave ovens use magnetrons, a type of electron tube, to produce radiation at a frequency of roughly 2,450 megahertz. Anker. (2023). Must know: how many watts does a microwave use . Blog center. It is clear that microwave ovens have a wide range of advantages, such as: Reheating food is the microwave oven's most popular use. Reheating food in a microwave oven is incredibly effective, preserves vital nutrients, and prevents food from becoming mushy. M icrowaves are excellent for reheating almost any type of food. Even though most people think of their cooktops and stoves as their primary cooking appliances, microwave ovens may actually be used to prepare a variety of items. It can be used to bake, grill, roast, blanch, boil, steam, and cook food. All of this can be accomplished with a microwave without using additional kitchen appliances. The amount of time it takes to heat up the food and the amount of carcinogenic char that forms are both decreased if the food is pre-heated in a microwave before placing it on the grill or in a pan. Microwave oven preparation takes less time, so less time is spent cooking, which preserves more nutrients in the food. If the microwave oven c...

Disadvantages

Even though microwaves have advantages, it is important to know that they also have some disadvantages:  The radiation can be harmful in case someone is really close to the window. It can be harmful in case the food is overheated or under heated.  It can cause food poising as it doesn't kill bacteria.  When plastic is microwaved, dangerous chemicals like BPA and phthalates can leak into your food and beverages. Therefore, unless it is specifically labelled for this usage, you should avoid microwaving plastic. It's crucial to use caution when heating liquids because overheated liquids have a slim chance of bursting out of their containers and burning the person. Due to the possibility of scald burns, never reheat baby formula or any other food or drink marketed for young children in a microwave. Kilgore, R. (2023). Personal experience

Image
I have a microwave in my house and I use it all the time, I find it very easy to use, as I place the food in the center of the microwave safe dish, close the door, chose the right setting to cook or reheat my food, then wait for it to stop, finally taking out my food and enjoy it. As mentioned in the disadvantages of the microwave, I have never experienced food poising, I always remove any plastic containers and I don't overheat or underheat my food.    I took this picture myself from my house.
