Introduction
A microwave oven is a compact, box-shaped oven that increases food's temperature by exposing it to an electromagnetic field with a high frequency. Water, lipids, carbohydrates, and a few other molecules absorb the microwaves, which causes their vibrations to produce heat. Thus, cooking time is significantly shortened because the heating takes place inside the food rather than warming the air around it. In a microwave oven, chores like baking and other types of cooking that take hours in a normal oven can be finished quickly. Microwave ovens use magnetrons, a type of electron tube, to produce radiation at a frequency of roughly 2,450 megahertz.
